City Eats: Brussels

Back in November I hopped on the Eurostar to Brussels for a week of work experience.

Seeing as I was by myself, I decided to spend my evenings sampling what the city has to offer on the restaurant front.

As I stayed in Ixelles which is pretty much bang in the city centre, I wasn't stuck for choice.

Most of my recommendations came from Brussel's Kitchen which is a much more comprehensive guide than what I have to offer here, but I thought I'd share a bit of my experience anyway.

Ellis Burger

Price range: €15-€20 p.p
Bookings: By phone for tables of 6 or more. I went on a Monday night and it wasn't overly-busy, but I'd assume you'd have to queue a bit on weekends. Don't worry, the service is quick.
I ordered: Cheeseburger with french fries and the classic iced tea. All of which were delicious- in particular the fries. The burger wasn't as good as the likes of Patty & Bun or Honest, but I'd still go back.
Locations: Various across Belgium and the Netherlands.

Little Tokyo

Price range: €15-€25 p.p
Bookings: By email or phone, details here.
I ordered: Vegetable tempura (delicious) and chicken yakitori (also delicious) with a side of sticky rice (not one for coriander-haters.)
As you can probably tell I had a nightmare choosing so I propped for tapas-style dining. Although, admittedly, I got a bit of food envy at some of the larger dishes.
Locations: 15 rue Saint Boniface, 1050 Ixelles

L'Ultime Atome

Price range: €15-€25 p.p
Bookings: I'm not entirely sure- give them a call.
I ordered: Steak frites and a Dame Noire. The food is very much classic brasserie-style and the atmosphere was so great that I went twice during my trip. Apparently this place is a bit of a Brussels institution, so if you want to eat with locals, eat here.
Locations: Sint-Bonifaasstraat 14 Rue Saint-Boniface - 1050 (Ixelles)

Takumi

Price range: €15-€25 p.p
Bookings: Nope- it's only tiny.
I ordered: Karaage donburi- a huge bowl of fried chicken with greens, rice and teriyaki sauce. The chicken was a little fatty, so I would probably try something else next time.
Locations: Rue Lesbroussart 8 - 1050 Bruxelles
