No5

Good restaurants in Bucks are few and far between.


If you're looking for an Italian chain, you're set, but otherwise there really isn't that much going on.

So when I saw pictures of No5 floating around on Instagram, I knew I had to give it a shot before moving to Paris.


The menu is pretty simple: steaks, salads and serious burgers.

Never one to bypass a bun I jumped in at the deep end with the restaurant's namesake, the No5 burger.




A beast of a burger topped with caramelised onions, smoked Lincolnshire poacher and waygu mayonnaise, with the crispiest of fries and charred corn on the side- something I definitely want to recreate at home.

I certainly wasn't disappointed. 

Going to uni in London I'm spoiled for choice when it comes to burger joints, and this was certainly up there with the good 'uns. 

Although it definitely didn't beat my ultimate favourite.

Feeling adventurous, Amy opted for the tempura crab burger with Asian slaw and chilli. A bit of a rogue choice but it got her seal of approval.




And of course we had to order some truffled mac n cheese on the side for good measure.


It was rich, creamy and delicious, although I wasn't 100% convinced by the addition of "puffed pork rind" (think stale prawn crackers, minus the prawn.)




As always, I didn't pass up the opportunity to peruse the puds.

After considerable deliberation, I chose the chocolate cake and honeycomb dealy with aerated chocolate, whose official name escapes me.

I guess I'll just have to go back for the iced peanut butter parfait.


I didn't really know what to expect but this really was a fantastic pudding. 

All too often restaurants get lazy when it comes to sweets, but that certainly wasn't the case at No5.

The perfect combination of smooth chocolate and chewy honeycomb with a crunchy base, this definitely ticked all the boxes.




While Amy went for the hot brioche doughnuts with salted caramel sauce, which is pretty self-explanatory on the delicious front.



I was very pleasantly surprised by No5. 

You can book online which is a major bonus as far as I'm concerned and we didn't suffer any new restaurant teething problems when it came to service.

As dinner goes, it wasn't the cheapest. The bill came to the best part of £40 each which, compared to the price of an equally as good (if not better...) burger at Patty & Bun or Honest, is pretty ludicrous, even when adding the puddings to the equation.

 But I would go back for a treat every once in a while.
